The UPLB Business Affairs Office, in its 2nd year, organized a 3-day Arnis Sports Clinic targeting children aged 8-15 from UPLB constituents and Los Baños residents as an extension program. Held on April 13, 20, & 27, 2024, the clinic received support from the Los Baños Arnis Team, Laguna Arnis Team, and the UPLB Arnis Varsity Team. Arnis, defined by RA 9850, is our national martial art involving striking, thrusting, and parrying techniques using sticks or bare hands.

“Exposing the kids to the sport as early as now benefits them in developing their sports skills, nationalism, and respect,” Coach Quan Phan of the Arnis Varsity Team said. “Teaching them Arnis enhances their fitness, self-defense abilities, coordination, focus, and memory,” he added. On top of that, starting early lays the groundwork for future instructors and contributes to the propagation of this Filipino martial art.

This year’s Arnis Sports Clinic was held under the canopy of one of UPLB’s Heritage Trees, a proper homage to our culture and heritage. The initiative underscores the importance of nurturing appreciation for Arnis among the youth and fostering a culture of respect and nationalism. AAArriesgado
